NEW DIRECTIONS

We founded Personae in 2022.

We sensed then that the confluence of client-side cryptography and verifiable identity on blockchains would enable exciting new product experiences. 2 years (and many product experiments) later, we’ve realized that it’s time to shift our attention to other endeavors.

The core ideas we’ve built around still excite us, but timing wasn’t quite right to build truly sticky products.

PAST

When we began our journey, the affordances for client-side identity proofs were wanting. We built an optimized ecdsa snark-prover in efficient-ecdsa and piloted heyanon as a proof of concept usage.

Pushing further, we built noun nyms , a persistent pseudonym app for nouns DAO and hardened our technology with spartan-ecdsa and sapir. While the technology problems remained tractable, we found it challenging to build a sticky product around identity.

We shifted our attention to creddd , a facility for adding your onchain reputation to your farcaster handle. We envisioned a world where verifiable reputation would be liquid and transferrable around identities and saw the burgeoning farcaster ecosystem as the ideal place to create a new type of ’reputation-bearing’identity.

While we saw sparks of attention and powered ~10k reputation-bearing identities, we were unable to build something solving a recurring need.

FUTURE

Many things have changed in the past 2 years:

• blockspace has become cheaper
• stablecoins have become more useful
• capital formation online has become more seamless

We’re excited about these trends and are re-entering the crypto idea maze.
